Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 2011

"School's Out" shock rocker Alice Cooper is headed into the history books.

The Detroit-born Cooper, whose real name is Vincent Damon Furnier, will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall ofFame's Class of 2011, according to the New York Times.
Cooper, who grew up mostly in Arizona before heading back to metro Detroit in the 1970s, wowed audiences with his gore-laden stage shows -- featuring guillotines, fake blood, mutilated dolls and slippery snakes-- throughout the 1970s and '80s.

His classic singles like "Eighteen," "No More Mr. Nice Guy" and "Only Women Bleed," remain staples on rock radio to this day, and his onstage theatrics predated many of rock's greatest showmen, including Kiss, Motley Crue, Rob Zombie and Marilyn Manson.
The 62-year-old will be inducted with Neil Diamond, Tom Waits, Darlene Love and Dr. John during a ceremony March 14 at the Waldorf-Astoria hotel in New York City, according to the Times. An official announcement from the hall is expected today.
Nominees who didn't make the cut this year include the Beastie Boys, Bon Jovi, J. Geils Band and Donna Summer.

(NEW YORK) -- The news leaked a couple of days ago, but now it's official.  Rolling Stone magazine reports that the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Class of 2011 will include Neil Diamond, Tom Waits, Alice Cooper, Darlene Love and Dr. John.
In addition, Leon Russell will be given the Award for Musical Excellence, which was formerly known as the "sideman" category.   The ceremony will be held March 14 at New York City's Waldorf Astoria Hotel and broadcast live on Fuse.
Though artists are eligible for induction into the Hall of Fame 25 years after they release their first single or album, all of this year's inductees have been eligible for years.  They all started their careers in the 60s, except for Waits, who put out his first album in 1973.
Alice Cooper told Rolling Stone that when he received the news, he called his former bandmates in the original Alice Cooper band and told then, "Well, it only took 45 years!"
